Frequently Asked Questions
When does the program run?
The program runs throughout the year and is divided into several sessions. We offer full season (9 to 13 weeks long) sessions that run in spring, summer, fall and winter. On a weekly basis, our program runs from Tueday to Friday, from 9am to 3pm (with an exception of summer when we are open Monday to Friday). Children can attend one day per week or more. With lower enrollment in any given season, we may be closed on Wednesdays.
How much is a session?
We offer a sliding scale. Please check under each program or on our Enroll page.
What is the age range and are all children together?
At our program, we cater to a diverse range of age: from 2 years old up to 14 years old, fostering a nurturing environment where children can thrive and grow. The starting age is based on readiness.
Hummingbirds (2 to 3 years old):
We are delighted to share our newest program at the farm, created especially for our youngest friends (ages 2-3). The Hummingbirds will spend their days exploring the homestead through songs, stories, simple crafts, and time with the animals and garden. This gentle program offers a joyful first connection to nature, community, and the rhythms of the farm.Honey Bees (3 to 4.5 years old):
These little ones buzz with energy and curiosity, eager to explore the world around them. In the Honey Bees group, we nurture their boundless imagination and encourage them to embrace their natural sense of wonder. Every day is an adventure, filled with playful learning that lays the foundation for a lifelong love of discovery. Our little ones need to be ready to join us, by this we mean that they are willing to come and stay without parents and nap is optional. We offer quiet/rest time. Half days are possible if your little one still needs a nap.Cardinals (5 to 9 years old):
Our Cardinals are the brave adventurers and emerging leaders, ready to spread their wings and soar. At this stage, they’re full of ideas, creativity, and a growing sense of independence. In the Cardinals group, we celebrate their enthusiasm and guide them as they take on new challenges, embrace teamwork, and inspire those around them with their innovative spirit.Ravens (10 to 14 years old):
The Ravens are our wise and confident explorers, navigating the journey from childhood to adolescence. As they approach the world with curiosity and determination, they become role models, guiding the younger ones with their insights and experience. In the Ravens group, we empower them to take on leadership roles, encouraging them to pursue their passions and shape their unique paths with confidence and purpose. How about summer?
Summer sessions are organized a bit differently. We have seven 1-week long sessions (Monday thorughout Friday, 9am-3pm. Aftercare available: 3pm-5:30pm). Children can attend 1 or more sessions. There is also an option to continue with our regular yearly schedule for children already enrolled in our programs, which means that a child could attend same day every week through the duration of the entire summer (subject to availability). All weekly sessions offer sliding scale pricing from $420 to $630 / week. Our next summer starts on June 15th, 2026 and will run all throughout the summer.
Is there a yearly commitment?
We run our program in 8 to 13-week sessions, so that families get to adapt to their lifestyles and pay by session. There is no year long commitment. However, we do ask for a full session commitment and make-up days are available for any missed days. Hummingbirds program for the youngest in on the month to month basis.
Can we join for just a day?
Yes, we offer drop-in days for those who attend schools and cannot join us for the entire session, or for those who do not live close by, or anyone curious to explore the farm program before committing for the full session.
What is the annual schedule?
We plan our sessions 1 to 2 seasons ahead. You can check our ‘Enroll’ sections to see the exact dates of the upcoming sessions. Here is however an example of our annual schedule:

Winter Solstice Special Program: 3rd week of December
Evergreen Dreams Program: special Holiday week (end of Dec / beginning of Jan)
Winter session: from the 1st week of January - until mid March. We also offer Winter Break Mini Session during that time.
In March or April, there is a special 1-week Spring Break session
Spring Session: from mid-March - until the beginning of June
Summer Sessions: from mid June - until the end of August
We are open on Holiday Mondays on public holidays: Indigenous Peoples' Day, Veterans Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, etc.
Saturdays on the Farm: once a month, we are open on Saturdays (between October and May).
Do you offer trial days or farm tours?
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer free trial days or farm tours. If you are uncertain for the program to be the right fit, please talk with Miss Juliet, the farm program director and owner of the Stony Hollow Farm.
There is a possibility to attend a paid full day farm though. We call it a “drop-in” day. Space is limited, however if planned in advance with Miss Juliet, we will surely find space for your child/ren to experience the farm. It is a full day 9am to 3pm. It’s a drop-off so we ask parents not to stay at the farm, however you are welcome to stay for the first half an hour as well as come 10-15 minutes before the pick up time. The cost of such a day is on sliding scale between $85 and $125.
The best time to see if the program is the right fit might be Saturdays on the Farm program (1 day, no commitment required) the 1-week long session during summer or during our winter or spring break mini sessions.

How about cold, inclement weather?
We have 2 heated classrooms where children can find good comfort and stay warm on freezing winter days. In warmer months, the classrooms provide a cool retreat from the sun. While we embrace outdoor exploration in all seasons, we prioritize safety and comfort. On particularly harsh days, we adjust activities to ensure children stay warm and dry, using indoor spaces as needed.
How about very hot weather?
We ask that parents to pack a bathing suit (no swimming involved), a change of clothes, a hat and a water bottle for their child. With any heat wave, safety and comfort is our priority and this will involve water! While we normally stay on the farm and tend to the animals and garden in the cooler hours of the day, we plan to venture to the forest as the temperature rises. We visit the nearby creek which meanders through the shady trees and while this is only a few inches deep, the children are welcome to get their feet wet and play in the water. This is a favorite pastime here at the farm for years now. We have air conditioning in all of our classrooms where children can cool off and quietly work on a craft or project. We also have sprinklers and mist available for children to cool off. There will always be water available and we will encourage the children to drink plenty of water throughout the day. If the tempearature reaches close to 100°F, we may call for a half a day to ensure safety and comfort of all involved.
