Fiber Arts & Crafts class

April 17th - June 5th

Investment:

$240 + $30 for supplies for a 9-week session paid upfront

Drop-in: $45 per class / child

Parent + Child option available (but limited): $440 + $50 for supplies

Class description:

Experience a variety of fiber arts and seasonal crafts. Projects include explorations in wet & dry felting, sewing, weaving, knitting, window transparencies, wood burning, mixed media collage and self-led interests. Bring your creativity and watch your visions come to life! 

Our teacher:

Amber learned how to sew and design clothing at 11 years old, through the local 4-H club. She won many 4-H county and state competitions with her creations. She started teaching kids sewing lessons at 16. Amber has worked with kids and adults teaching beginner to advanced sewing techniques, pattern making, & clothing design. She has also helped several students prepare for their entrance into college fashion programs. Amber loves working with kids and helping them achieve their sewing and fashion design goals. Currently she has her own sewing business, where she specializes in skating/dance costumes and cosplay costumes.  

Sewing class

April 15th - June 6th

Beginner level: Thursdays, 3:30-5:00pm

Intermediate level: Monddays, 9:30-11:00am

Class description:

Welcome to our exciting sewing class designed especially for children! In this engaging and hands-on course, young learners will embark on a creative journey through the world of sewing.

Throughout the program, students will delve into fundamental sewing techniques, equipping them with the skills needed to bring their imaginative designs to life. From mastering the art of sewing curves to perfecting hems, elastic bands, and zipper installations, each lesson will offer a new opportunity for growth and discovery.

Under the guidance of our experienced teacher, Amber Crispell, budding seamstresses and tailors will tackle a variety of fun and practical projects. From crafting a cozy pillowcase to stitching together stylish pajama pants, a versatile tote bag, a charming apron, and a handy pencil case, each creation will showcase their newfound skills and ignite their passion for sewing.

With access to sewing machines provided in class, students will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with this essential tool of the trade. However, for those who prefer to use their own sewing machines, they are more than welcome to bring them along to class.

Beyond the sheer joy of creating something beautiful with their own hands, this sewing class promises to cultivate a range of invaluable skills in children. From enhancing their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to fostering patience, perseverance, and problem-solving abilities, sewing empowers young minds with a sense of accomplishment and self-confidence. Moreover, as they explore the limitless possibilities of fabric and thread, students will unleash their creativity and imagination, paving the way for a lifetime of artistic expression and innovation.

Crochet class

Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30pm

Level: Beginners and intermediate

This is a 4-week program. Joining once program has started is possible.

Welcome to our fun and creative crochet class designed especially for children and their parents if they want to have fun! In this class, young aspiring crafters will embark on a colorful journey into the world of crochet, where they will learn the art of creating beautiful and unique items using just a hook and yarn. No prior crochet experience is required, making it perfect for beginners.

Objectives:

  1. Introduction to Crochet: Children will be introduced to the basic tools, materials, and terminologies used in crochet, making them comfortable with the craft from the very beginning.

  2. Fundamental Stitches: Kids will learn essential crochet stitches such as chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, and more. These stitches will form the foundation of their crocheting skills.

  3. Fun Projects: Throughout the course, children will engage in exciting and age-appropriate crochet projects. These projects may include creating simple accessories like scarves, hats, headbands, or small toys like amigurumi creatures.

  4. Creativity and Imagination: Our class encourages children to unleash their creativity and imagination. They can choose colors, patterns, and design variations to personalize their projects and make them truly unique.

  5. Problem-Solving: Crocheting involves following patterns and instructions, which helps improve a child's problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  6. Patience and Persistence: As they work on their projects, children will develop patience and perseverance, essential qualities that extend beyond the crafting world.

Supplies: Not included. The teacher will explain everything during the first class and guide you towards yarn suppliers in the area. If your child already has their crochet kit, they are welcome to bring it along.

At the end of the class, each child will take home their completed crochet projects, along with newfound skills and a love for this beautiful craft!
